Live Mission.

Before Jesus ascended back to the Father, He sent his disciples on mission to change the world. He sent them with the power of the Holy Spirit to live a life for something greater than just themselves, and Jesus entrusts us with the same mission today. We are sent to make disciples and to show the world around us the love of Jesus. In Acts 1:8, Jesus sends his disciples to Jerusalem, Judea/Samaria, and to the ends of the world.

Definition

  • Jerusalem represents the local context, the closest people in proximity. For us, this means we are sent to the campuses of UNI and Hawkeye to tell other college students about Jesus.

  • Judea and Samaria represent the mission to the greater area around. For us, this means we are sent to the Cedar Valley to love our community and be like Jesus to people off campus.

  • The World represents our mission to see the unreached around the globe come to know Jesus. For us, this means going cross-culturally to both international students on campus and on mission trips in order to show Jesus to completely new contexts.

Practices/Tools to grow in this area:

Prayer Walk

  • This can be done throughout the week or before small group as a way to invite new students into your small group.

Missional Night

  • Plan a night for small group where you are going to do something more “fun” and have each person commit to inviting their friends. Design that night for the new person.

The One

  • As a group, choose one person per small group member that they are going to invite to small group or large group that week and pray over that person.

Community Prayer

  • Do this through going to a local place and offering to pray for strangers with your small group.

Worldwide Missions

  • Go on a mission trip with Chi Alpha! We aim to take several mission trips each year. We announce our trips during Missions Week in November!

  • Organize a fundraiser with your small group for feedONE in order to raise money and live on mission for the world.

  • Choose a country to commit to pray for a period of time that missionaries would go and thrive there.

Questions to think/talk through:

  • What keeps you from living missionally? Why do you think that is?

  • Who is one person God has put on your heart to share with Jesus with? What are you going to do about it?

  • Why were you created?/What is the purpose of your life?

  • What do you think is the best way to share Jesus with someone?/How could you share Jesus with your coworkers, classmates, friends, family?

  • How do you think you could invite other people into your life?

And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
