Live Service.

Definition

In John 13, we see Jesus washing his disciples’ feet as an example to what leadership looks like in the kingdom of God. In this upside down kingdom leadership is serving. The way we love the people around us is through serving them and “washing their feet.” Everyone has a part to play in the body of Christ, no one gets to sit on the bench, which means we should all be “in the game” in some way.

Practices/Tools to grow in this area:

There are two avenues for this: small group leadership or volunteering on a team.

Everyone serves in Chi Alpha

  • Get involved with a Tuesday Night team in order to serve our community. Connect with the team leads and talk through which team would be best fit.

  • The main way of serving is through small group leadership, but also through serving on Sunday mornings at church. Every small group leader should serve on a team at church.

Serve our community

  • Organize a serve day at the food bank, Alternatives Pregnancy Center, etc. for your small group.

Serve with your gifts

  • Take a spiritual gifts assessment to identify your unique spiritual giftings and how you can best serve the body of Christ. Talk through your results with a leader!

Questions to think/talk through:

  • In what ways are you serving the Kingdom of God?

  • Is your life about yourself or others? What is the evidence?

  • How could you better serve the people around you?

  • Which team at Chi Alpha seems the most interesting to you? How could we get you to be a part of that team?

  • What causes are you passionate about? How can we better serve society together?

Scriptures to Study:

John 13

Matthew 20:26-28

26 It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

1 Peter 4:10

10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.
